ABOUT

I design experiences people can actually learn.

Twenty years across design, learning, product, and business strategy, helping teams build experiences people can understand, learn, and adopt.

My career has evolved across design, learning, product, and business strategy — from an early foundation in graphic, editorial, and brand design, into web and digital experiences, learning experience design, user experience, product design, and ultimately business strategy. Across more than 20 years, I've worked at the intersection of how people experience, understand, learn, and adopt products and services.

I've spent much of my career as a hands-on leader — equally comfortable setting strategy and getting into the work itself. That experience has shaped how I approach design: I care not only about how a product looks or functions, but whether people can actually understand it, learn it, adopt it, and get value from it.

My practice sits at the intersection of experience design, product strategy, and learning — bringing together the systems, products, and experiences that help organizations and the people they serve succeed.

WHAT MAKES THIS WORK DIFFERENT

The intersection of product design, experience design, learnability, and education.

Most designers do one of these things well. I've built my practice around doing all four together, because the products my clients build cannot be understood without them.

The unique strength I bring is understanding not only how to design an interface, but how to help people understand, learn, and successfully use complex products.

PHILOSOPHY

How I think about design.

Understandability, not simplicity.

Simplicity is easy to talk about and hard to ship. What most products actually need is to be understandable — a subtler, more honest target.

The best onboarding is a product that teaches itself.

Tours and checklists are a symptom of a product that hasn't been designed to teach. My job is to move teaching into the product itself.

Design decisions are business decisions.

Every design decision is a bet about what matters most. My job is to help you make those bets well and to keep them honest.

Small teams, high bar.

I take a small number of engagements each year so the work is genuinely mine. If we work together, you're not being passed to a bench.
